My birthday is coming and I am depressed about that. I'm feeling like the years are FLYING by now...the clock is ticking, and I am doing nothing about it. Mostly because I still feel like I want stuff in the FUTURE...but the future is becoming the present and I am so not ready for that.
I need...something.

SO I was on the train coming home when this guy near me starts saying "RING RING RRRIIIINNNNGGG!" I put on my best WTF face, as did everyone else in the subway car, and he stopped. About a minute later he did it again, "RIIINGG RIIIIIIINGGGG!" and proceeded to take out his cell phone and fake-answer it. He had a short conversation on the phone with himself and then hung up.
Only in New York, folks...
So here is another entry. Let's recap the last, say, four months then, shall we?
June- My students did well on the (unusually difficult) regents exam. I say unusually difficult because the exam is normally quite predictable, but this one had some questions from left field. There is nearly ALWAYS a "John Locke's theory of natural rights inspired which of the following American documents?" question, and a few on Supreme Court cases, etc., and I reviewed that content so often with my students that I think they would kill me if they ever heard the words Marbury and Madison in a sentence together again...yet there were virtually no sourt case questions...and TWO questions on habeas corpus...a topic I've never seen on the regents before. C'est la vie, they still passed.
OH! And Harry Potter 7 came out!!!! I blogged about that already but OMG no more Potter? I can't wait for the next movie and...*wait for it*...THEME PARK!!!! *is all a titter*
Then I was training for my new job. That went rather badly because the man "training" me really doesn't know how to train people. I tried quitting a total of 5 times but they wouldn't let me, so I am doing the job now, at least until January. Thank goodness for carpal tunnel. Actually the job has been fairly easy so far, but then again there is nobody to really tell me what I should be doing...I might be neglecting projects that I don't even know I have because nobody is there to tell me and nobody knew what the previous guy did in that office. So, that pretty much recaps July and most of August. I did spend some days with Adri, we did our annual "Ladies Day at the Water Park Because our Hubbies are too Grumpy to Fully Enjoy Water Parks Like Us" Day, among other things. It was "The Summer of Training That Wasn't" this year.
August was punctuated with a trip to Rhode Island with my sister, which was very fun. I'd post pics, but I'm too lazy (HINT HINT TERESA). We explored tons of mansions and ate the most delicious food, and I came to the very important conclusion that savory crepes are the bomb diggity. Oh oh OH AND we went to a MURDER MYSTERY *wwoooOOOOoooOOOOO!* It was very cool, and the butler was HOT, but I won't say if he did it or not ;-) And we did a ghost tour at night as well...New England is so spooky :-)
And then I went back to work. Back to the grind. Back to another September, when suddenly......BAM!!!! I found myself in Disney World with Teresa! We literally booked it the night before we left. We are so wild and spontaneous LOL. And even better, it was for my BIRTHDAY!!! I actually got to spend my 27th (ick) birthday in the Magic Kingdom. It was such a blast...although waaaay too short (3 days). Our hotel was the awesomeness as well, we got to sleep in what are called "Heavenly Beds" and by jove, they mean it. I have never been in such a comfortable bed in my LIFE. They must have put chloroform in the pillows or something. Teresa hasn't been to WDW since we were kids, which made it extra special. She'd never even been to Animal Kingdom. One night we got stuck in a downpour that was so bad it flooded EPCOT and I walked out barefoot, but it was still an adventure! I also got to check out some new attractions, my fave of which is the comedy show with Mike Wasowski...it is a cartoon on a screen, yet he interacts with the crowd. Disney never ceases to amaze me. Wil couldn't come, but the trip was his gift to me and it was pretty much the best present ever.
A couple more things: Went to the Ren Faire a few weeks ago (I didn't dress up, so it wasn't the same :-/), and we went apple picking today...so the early holiday signs are underway. Halloween decorations are up now, before we know it, it will be Thanksgiving and Christmas! This time of the year always flies by, but I love it. I also like my classes this year...all freshman US history, which I thought would be a pain, but it's been fine. Only thing is they take SO MUCH LONGER to understand things than my juniors and seniors did. What a difference a couple of years make.
Fantasy football is underway, and Teresa joined as well this year. Of course her team rocks, but both she and Wil have lost one game while I remain 3-0!!! Woot! Of course, I'll be screwed when I play them because my team isn't that great...I've just been lucky. Let's hope that continues tomorrow. And that pretty much brings everything up to speed. Peace out.

But then the other part of me feels like I'll regret not writing in here and have some part of my life documented to look back on one day. On occasion, I'll sift through my old posts...there are so many memories preserved there that I probably would have forgotten otherwise. Friends that are long gone...at least I can look back on a time when things were different. Or details of my wedding, or even from college, that are fun to reminisce about. Interestingly, this current post actually lacks those elements that I enjoy in my past posts as it doesn't really SAY anything, other than I don't post here often...which is evident in the lack of 2007 posts anyway. But alas, 'tis time to feed the kitty...then eat and watch jeopardy with the fam, so I suppose the true post can wait...just a little bit longer...
(of course I say that now, with no intent to be back anytime soon. *sigh*)
As silly as it sounds, I'm incredibly sad now. I've looked forward to this for so long, and now...it's done. I feel as if I've lost a friend.
I want to give my thoughts on the whole thing, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone else.

Anyway, here's the main reason for today's post...
There used to be a teacher at the school, a male English teacher, who was there for years. He wasn't a great teacher, did a lot of talking, but not much teaching...used to give out dollar bills when random students got answers right (so the kids would like him, I imagine...I'm not a fan of such tactics), was UBER-casual, always walking around with his beat-up leather bomber jacket over his shoulder...even while teaching. The students always thought he was just a laid-back teacher, and although I'm sure some students wondered why he ALWAYS had the jacket over his shoulder, none ever bothered to ask him.
As it turns out, the other teachers knew. He told his co-workers (in all seriousness, mind you) that under the jacket was a sleeping dragon, and if he was exposed to light, the dragon would kill everyone, himself included. He kept the jacket over him to save the world. It was his duty, a job unfortunately given to only the most valiant and worthy.
SAVE THE WORLD, you wonder!?! A DRAGON, you say?!?!?! What the eff???a(&^dhg[-12`9\1e=-[
I agree. And THAT is the kind of weird I referred to above. Not that any current English teachers suffer from the same affliction, but I have a feeling they are not too far behind the Dragon-Slayer. Furthermore, I would have liked to meet this fellow, I think we coud have been great friends. Maybe I should give the English Department a try after all...they could be great to bring to parties, bar mitvahs, etc.
In continuing dragon news, I finally saw Eragon. I found it to be very choppy, although I liked the basic story...meaning I will finally read the book. I'm pretty sure the movie did not do it justice, in my opinion it needed to be at least an hour longer to fill in the storyline better and to get us to care about the characters a bit more. A shame, because I love that genre.

What a strange life that woman led.
I get off the 5 and go to my usual spot on the platform. I always go to the front against the wall, so I can lean there away from the wind before boarding the first car. On this particularly brisk Monday morn, some crazy lady gets off behind me and tries to rush ahead to my spot. I'm like 3 feet ahead of her, mind you, and without even rushing, I get to the spot first. Then she proceeds to hover over me, even though there is plenty of room. It's both annoying and creepy. This is how the rest went down:
Crazy Lady: "Hey, I was going to stand there!"
(Meanwhile, the platform is nearly empty, there is plenty of room)
Me: "Well...sorry..." (I shrug, but I don't move)
Crazy Lady again: "That is MY spot!"
Me: "Funny...I don't see your name here anywhere..." (and I proceed to pretend to look around for her name)
Crazy Lady: "Well, I don't see YOUR name here anywhere either!"
So....I took out my chalk... and wrote my name on the floor...and stood on it.
Me: "Well...guess that solves that, doesn't it?"
She cocked her head back and forth a few times, stuttered, and stormed off, sucking her teeth. And I proudly stood in my spot. It helps that, as I teacher, I have chalk on me at all times :-D
That crazy bitch met her match.
Beauty and the Beast on Broadway is ENDING!!
I am so upset. I have seen in twice, but it doesn't seem like enough. It's to make room for The Little Mermaid, which is silly in my opinion, especially considering Tarzan's recent successes...or lack thereof. Disney gave some cockamamie reason as to why Tarzan was staying and the hugely popular Beauty and the Beast is going...but my answer to them is POOPIE! I DON'T WANNA HEAR IT!!!
I have to make sure I see it one last time...just like Beast says in the movie! I guess I thought they'd keep it forever. This is sad news for me. *sigh*

I am BEYOND thrilled! Although now the adrenaline is wearing off, and I am assessing the damage...sore throat, headache, and I may have twisted my ankle in a celebratory leap off my sofa. Ah, well, it was worth it! And what a great game! An instant classic between two rivals, fighting to the bitter end. It just reminds me why I love football so much. I can't wait until next week...now time to plan a SUPER BOWL PARTY!!!

I wonder if I have some sort of mild ADD...
He brought matches and a lighter to school...for no reason, supposedly. Then, during one of his classes (not in mine) he decides to call some random girl a "Two-Cent Ho" and proceeds to try and light her on fire. Said student, however, is less than adept at using matches, and is unsuccessful in his torching attempt. Girl tells security later, and they go looking for the boy. The boy, in an attempt to get rid of the evidence, proceeds to EAT THE MATCHES. The whole book of them. Unfortunately, the dumbass forgot about the lighter, and he was subsequently suspended. Furthermore, an ambulance was called in case the ingested matches produced any ill effects. Apparently not, because he was in school the next day, got kicked out of another class for throwing chalk and was sent to our office.
Lesson of the Day- You can eat a whole book of matches and not get sick.

I may change a couple as I remember other songs, but I'm pretty happy with it as it is.
I wish I went, lots of people in it I would have liked to see...including Adam Graves and Mike Richter! Oh well, I stayed home for football...that's where my loyalty lies now.
I can't believe the Kenyans did not win either the men's OR women's race though, that's interesting.
After 8 years of dodging it, I am finally serving jury duty, and you know what? I LIKE IT!!!
Okay, maybe "like" is a strong word, but I don't have to go to work, and they have televisions and the internet there, so it's all good. Granted, the television was only on news networks (although they changed for The Price is Right) and the "u" and "y" buttons on the keyboard didn't work, and the computer logs you off after 8 minutes, but it was still better than dirty looks from dirty teenagers that I get at work every day.
And the people there are so......interesting. I had a woman beg me to use her cell phone to talk to her baby's daddy because he didn't believe that she was at jury duty and he didn't want to pick up their kid from school. He hung up on me though, oh well. And another woman who tried to get into a fight with me insisting that Cory Lidle committed suicide (didn't help that she brought it up every ten minutes because the news show kept repeating the same stories so often that I can now recite them). And then there was the VERY trashy looking middle aged woman with foot-high hairsprayed bangs and a leopard print purse yelling on her phone that she should not have to be here because it was "like waiting on a welfare line." Yup...interesting.
Oh, and then there was a fight between two women on the train on the way home...but that could have happened any day.
Yep...jury duty rules, and I get to go back tomorrow! Oh, the stories I will have...
Another plane crash in NY...looks like Yankee pitcher Cory Lidle was flying it... :-(
So sad and scary. Thank God my sister is ok...
Ten years, on 10-10-06. And my favorite album is Ten :-P So, yeah, it's a big deal and stuff. :-D
LET'S GO METS!!!!
They just pulled ahead again. OMG they are going to give me palpitations.
And talk about HILARIOUS but Wilson is at the playoff game right now...the YANKEE playoff game! No, he's not being a traitor, his friend offered him the ticket so he is there rooting for the other team. ANOTHER subway series would be okay, I guess...but I just would rather not deal with Yankee fans at all :-P
